Your Cinco de Mayo Primer
If you haven't noticed, it's Cinco de Mayo. Another holiday that is much, much better when it's on a weekend. A lot of people think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day, but it's really not. It's a celebration of the Mexican army's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla. There you go, impress your friends with that bit of knowledge. I've poked around, and I haven't really found tons of events per se, but after the jump I've made some suggestions.
If you’re looking for Mexican food, here are some options:
El Rodeo — Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, Lemoyne, Mechanicsburg. I think there’s about 27 locations on the Carlisle Pike alone.
Fiesta Mexico — Harrisburg
El Sol — Harrisburg
Herby’s El Mexicano — Steelton
El Serrano — Lancaster, York
Montezuma Restaurant — Gettysburg, Chambersburg
There are also a handful of different Mexican joints in Reading if you’re in the area. My favorite is Alebrije.
If you’re looking for a party, the Downtown After Dark bars are having another $15 all you can drink Bar Crawl. Also, the West Shore Hardware Bar is having a Miss Chili Pepper contest and a chili pepper eating contest. Level 2 is having a Salsa Party as well.
Finally, just because I feel like it, Spotobe’s official ranking of Mexican beers that I have tried. This is in no way a scientific inquiry, just my gut reaction. Don’t get up in arms beer snobs, just give us your rankings. The prices are averages that I’ve found in Pennsylvania and are all for a case of 12 oz. bottles.

If you’re looking for tequila, it’s worth spending the money to upgrade from Cuervo to 1800, but not from 1800 to Patron. Patron is smooth but 1800 is saltier and has a better flavor.
