Who Do You Want To Hear From?

I have to admit that it’s going to take me a little while to get used to blogging. My background is in journalism, and in fact, this is my first professional job outside of the biz. That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed the switch. I was a sportswriter, and sportswriters almost inevitably begin hating sports. Trust me, I was well on my way.

As a sportswriter, you constantly find yourself trying to talk to people that have no interest in talking to you. You also work lousy hours and have to spend a lot of time with other sportswriters, many of whom smell strongly of coffee and press food and love to talk about sportswriting. It’s not as glamorous as it seems.

I told you all that to tell you this: While I realize that I am a blogger now, I’m still not ready to make a clean break from being a reporter. Honestly, I’m not sure why most people are convinced that there has to be a huge difference between the two. I think there are a lot of interesting people in Central Pennsylvania and not enough people asking them interesting questions. That’s not a slight on the Patriot-News. I love the Patriot-News, but you can never have too many people out there poking around.

One of the ongoing features of this blog (ongoing as in, whenever the mood strikes me) will be the occasional Q&A with a noteworthy local. It appears as though the first one might end up being next week, and I’m curious as to whom else people would like to hear from. Either in the comment section or by email (click on my name at the bottom of the post), let me know who in the local scene interests you. I can’t promise that I’ll be able to get them, but I’ll try, and I can be a pretty persistent (annoying, whatever) reporter when I want to be.
