This Weekend: It’s All First Available
Love it or hate it, the Pennsylvania Smoking Ban is now in effect.
I'm sure this makes many of you quite happy, so this weekend, enjoy the fact that when you go out for a bite you won't have to choose between "non-smoking" and "first available." Smoker or not, If you don't like the law there are plenty of things going on in Central Pennsylvania to keep your mind off of it. You can even smoke at some of them.
The York Fair continues Friday and actually through the weekend, but you can’t smoke there. You also can’t smoke at the Whitaker Center’s Golden Dragon Acrobats show, but that’s nothing new. The only person who has ever been allowed to smoke inside the Whitaker Center is Billy Bob Thornton.
Theaters (theatres if you must) are beginning to open their 2008-09 schedules, and Theatre Harrisburg opens Andrew Bergman’s senior-citizen-sex-joke-filled Social Security on Friday night. If you’re more in the mood for a concert, there are two very different shows taking place as well. Cellofourte, a talented cello quartet that blends classical string music with rock, will be performing at Messiah College. American Speedway, a Philadelphia band that blends thrashing guitar riffs with cocaine, will be performing at Dragonfly.
On Saturday, if you are looking for a community event, Hummelstown is having its annual art festival. If your dog is bored, take him or her to a play date. If you want to volunteer, Wildwood Park is having a work day. If you want to drink beer and listen to live music all day, Appalachian Brewing Company is hosting the Capital City Invitational Beer Festival. If you want to watch football that isn’t on TV, the Central Penn Piranha have a home game. If you want to hang out with me, I’ll be at the Ingrid Michaelson concert at Messiah. That’s her up there in the picture. I’m really going into the concert with a pretty clean slate, so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll let you know next week.
In addition to all that stuff, you still have the Renaissance Faire, more York Fair and another performance of Social Security.
Sunday, you have more York Fair and Social Security yada yada yada. You also get a chance to see the Hershey Gardens for free during GardenFest. There are going to be all kinds of activities going on, so check it out. Other than Ingrid, it seems like a low-key weekend for me. Maybe dinner somewhere Friday or out for football on Sunday. Have fun kids.

Darn! No comments yet.
You know it's really sad when people ignore each other and right now I feel really ignored. Would you like to help start a conversation now?
