This Weekend: Feeling Halloweenish
People love Halloween. When I was in college, I always thought that Halloween was way overrated. It was kind of like Saint Patties Day except it was cold and you had to spend money on a costume. I could go off on a philosophical bent about the implications of the escapism inherent in the concept of Halloween, but that would be boring and this is not the place. I should start a blog.
Anyway, no one thing—with the possible exception of fireworks—has monopolized Spotobe's calendar in its relatively short life like Halloween has recently. This weekend is full of Halloweenie stuff, but actually plenty of fake-bat-free things as well.
On the Halloween Front, Hersheypark in the Dark and the Blue Meadow Farm Haunted Hayride both run through the weekend. That’s about it for the Halloween stuff on Friday, but The Tamboureens are playing at Suba. Loving them. Can’t wait for the album. Theater-wise (theatre-wise), there’s The Mouse Trap at the Hershey Area Playhouse, The Pajama Game at Hershey Theatre and Around The World in 80 Days at the Angino Family Theater.
Saturday morning is the Great Pumpkin Chase 5K and the Harrisburg Young Professionals Race Through Harrisburg so if you see a bunch of people running around, chances are they are participating in one of the two. For some family-friendly Halloween fun on Saturday, check out Halloween at Little Buffalo or Out of the Ordinary Tales for Halloween at Fort Hunter. If you aren’t taking the kids, are an older kid, or just like listening to kids music, the Champion Ship in Lemoyne is having a Halloween Cover Show.
Sunday is the Grand Finale of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. I swore I was going to make it out there this year, but it’s not looking good. Also, the Hershey Bears are playing Rochester and Hanson is playing the Chameleon Club. Apparently they are cool now.
Me? Phillies, Penn State, maybe out on Friday Night. Suba, possibly? Have fun kids.

1 comment so far. Okay.
Overrated? Couldn't agree more senior spotobe. I will say that I did enjoy the haunted maze at Blue Meadow Farms. The place is a lot cheaper than the much hyped Jason's Woods or Field of Screams and really it's just as good, the haunted hayride is longer as well. If you're going to do the Halloween thing, it's worth checking out.
