This Weekend: Celebrate We Will

I’m going to try to keep this brief because I just finished a delicious rib eye and a glass of Fox Run Cabernet Franc Lemberger on the porch overlooking Seneca Lake. I’d take a picture for you, but the camera is upstairs and I could barely muster up the energy to get to the laptop. Anyway, I’ll be back in town on Saturday, and if I were so inclined, there would be plenty of stuff worth doing. As it stands, I’ll probably be too busy recovering from my week of relaxing. Nevertheless, on with the show…

Friday night, you’ve got the Dave Matthews Band in Hershey. I’ve been to Dave concerts at plenty of venues, but I always saw the best concerts at Hershey. I caught a particularly fantastic show on September 11, 2002. I know it has become chic to rag on DMB, and it probably hurts my music cred to say I still enjoy them, but whatever. Music cred is actually kind of overrated. People that spend half their lives slobbering over Widespread Panic are usually tough to be around. Ignore what your friends say and go see Dave. If he plays Two Step, let me know what first verse he uses.

Other than that, Friday is pretty tame. You’ve got the usual cover band silliness, but it might be a good night to check out the Brendan Loper exhibit at the Susquehanna Art Museum or grab tapas and cocktails at Suba.

Saturday is a lot better. In the morning, you’ve got the Great River Adventure, a canoe and boat race down the Susquehanna River that I would be participating in if I were in town. It’s the perfect event for experienced canoers or families looking for a day in the sun. There is also a pair of ethnic festivals, the African Family Fest in Reservoir Park and the Celtic Fling and Highland Games at Mount Hope Estate.

Both festivals wrap up on Sunday, and so does the Gettysburg Festival. Families can also enjoy a Pizza Cruise on the Pride of the Susquehanna. As for me, I’ll be trying to squeeze the last few drops out of my vacation and root Spain to victory in Sunday’s final. Have fun kids.
