This Weekend: Carrie or Indy?

First off, my apologies for slacking on the spotoblog/twitter front this week. Bad job by me. This blog will normally be updated more than once a week.

As for this weekend, there’s a lot happening beyond Sex and the City and Indiana Jones. On the music front, the Central Pennsylvania Friends of Jazz Festival runs all weekend long, and kicks off with some live performances at the Hilton’s Patio Grill Friday night. If that’s not your style (it’s not really mine, I try to like jazz, I really do, but…)

Rosematter, a female-fronted emo act from York is at the Champion Ship Friday night. I’ve only taken a quick listen, but I’m intrigued. Also, The Underwater is having a CD release party at Dragonfly on Saturday night in support of their new album, Forces (I’ll be expecting a kickback guys). I’ve listened to a lot of local music lately and I think this is a band that has a chance to make some noise nationally.

Some other stuff that caught my eye this weekend. The Dauphin County Blues & Wine Festival looks like a really sweet event, but it’s curious that it was planned the same day as the Jazz Festival. A little demographic overlap, no? Wonder which was planned first. Also, Lower Dauphin is hosting a swing dance. Remember the swing revival of the 1990’s? Those halcyon days when the Brian Setzer Orchestra and the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies (whose new album is named Susquehanna incidentally) ruled the world?

A few more, no Senators this weekend, but the City Islanders are in town. The fitness inclined can also pedal in the Tour de Cure.

As for me, I’ll be in York celebrating my girlfriend’s birthday and watching the Phillies take first place off of the Fish. I might be going to the Sex and the City movie (it is her birthday after all) and if I do, I’ll probably have some thoughts on it next week. Go have fun, kids.

1 comment so far. Okay.

  1. Emo

In regard to Indiana Jones, I didn't think it was that good. I heard they were rushed to finish the movie.. shame really. Maybe it was just me as I had higher expectations from such a movie.

Do you have something to add?
