Restaurant Round-Up: Pizza Grille, Schiano’s Italian Restaurant & Rock Bass Grill

Not too many people in Central Pennsylvania have a bad word to say about the Pizza Grille. The place has won about every applicable award an area restaurant can win (scant few), and has gotten nothing but effusive praise from the local media. This week in the Restaurant Round-Up, Spotobe contributor Jim writes about an underwhelming visit. Has anyone else been lately? Did Jim catch them on an off night or has the Pizza Grille become slightly overrated? Also this week in the Round-Up, Lily gives Rock Bass Grill a tepid recommendation and Madeline writes about about a local favorite in Northern Dauphin County. Pizza Grille
Name: Jim
When: Friday at 6:30
Been Before: Yes
Ordered: A 10-inch pizza topped with sausage and ham.
The Food: The pizza was good this time.
The Ambiance: Family dining; nothing too spectacular.
Company: Eight friends.
Did Others Like Their Meals: The pizzas were good, but the other things that people ordered weren’t that great. Especially the sandwiches. In my wife’s case, the sandwich was really dry and just lacked something.
Cost: $7-11 with no alcohol.
The Service: The service wasn’t very good either; my water was empty most of the night and my friend’s beer came about two minutes before the bill.
Notes: While it would be easy just to say that you should order pizza at a restaurant named “Pizza Grille,” there are always going to be a few people that want something else. In this case, I’d go elsewhere.
Recommendation: No

Schiano’s Italian Restaurant
Name: Madeline
When: Saturday evening
Been Before: Yes
Ordered: I ordered Gnocchi Marinara which came with a salad and bread.
The Food: The food is awesome! 9.5 out of 10.
The Ambiance: It is a very small place. You walk in and seat yourself like a normal pizza shop.
Company: My boyfriend.
Did Others Like Their Meals: Yes
Cost: It was about $10 per person.
The Service: The service is always good and the people that run the place are very friendly.
Notes: Don’t be fooled by the restaurant’s appearance. The food is amazing! It is one of my favorite places for Italian food. They have pizzas and subs, which are delicious, but if you want a really nice authentic dish there are plenty to choose from.
Recommendation: Definitely. Especially if you live in Northern Dauphin County.

Rock Bass Grill
Name: Lily
When: Saturday, around 8:00
Been Before: Yes, for lunch
Ordered: I ordered a special, and to be honest, I don’t remember exactly what it was. I guess it wasn’t particularly memorable. It was some sort of pasta with chicken—but I know it came with a sweet potato.
The Food: Good, but not the best.
The Ambiance: Rock Bass is perfect for an adult, family meal with a view of the river and city lights. Compared to the two restaurants next door, Rock Bass definitely has a more elegant, upscale ambiance.
Company: My parents and my roommate.
Did Others Like Their Meals: Yes, for the most part. Again, they didn’t love it, but it was good enough.
Cost: $14-$25 per meal, and a bottle of wine for the four of us was about $15.
The Service: The service was a little frustrating at first. It took us a while just to order our food, but our waitress was very apologetic and even gave us all free desserts for being patient.
Notes: We all left the restaurant full and happy.
Recommendation: Yes. A great place to take your parents.

"It's pretty depressing when people are so short-sighted that they immediately change their mind about something being "good" or not based on something like religion. As a member of a band (who has played shows with Farewell Flight and find that they are awesome dudes on and off stage, regardless of anything related to religion or any other personal convictions of theirs), I'm glad when I talk to people who seem to have some sort of depth or substance. A small but usually accurate indicator of this can be whether or not they hold opinions like the one Sam has voiced. A lot of bands find it sort of comforting that their fans aren't hipsters, bigots, or just overtly judgmental people in general. It's good that people like Sam find out that bands they like are Christians or so- five-minutes-ago or whatever it is that these people choose to hate at the moment so they can turn on them and talk shit about them because of factors that are completely irrelevant to the way the songs vibrate in his ears. I hope that Sam isn't older than maybe 16 or so, because that would be pretty sad. I also hope he eventually opens his mind up a little bit and enables his self to enjoy things in a bit more of a detached fashion. It can be pretty refreshing." — Jesse on "Farewell Flight: Sound. "I'm with Jim on Pizza Grille. I've been there twice for lunch, ordered salads both times. While the ingredients were fresh and the service was sufficient, I didn't find the food to be memorable or inspired. "You make an excellent point. And let me get it out there that I love Pierce Brosnan. I think he is the smoothest human being alive, and he did have a few scripts that were absolute clunkers. The last one especially. I did a bit of research and it appears as though Craig is committed to doing 5 total Bonds, so at the pace of one every 2 years, the role is probably his until about 2014." — Justin on "The New Bond"

"The whole time I was watching this, I kept forgetting that Craig is supposed to be Bond. He's an incredible actor, but just doesn't have the look. He's definitely physical, but I kept thinking during the Tosca scene that he doesn't have Connery's etiquette to fit into that social arena. Another note--while I don't think Brosnan is the actor Craig is, I don't think the critics give Brosnan credit for dealing with less-than-stellar scripts. He also didn't have the opportunity to recreate the character from scratch. Personally, I'm hoping Ioan Gruffudd grows into the role a few pictures from now and is able to recreate Craig's intensity. EON hiring Dan Bradley from Bourne definitely made the pacing just right--it wasn't slow, yet wasn't the Blair Witch ADD cutting that Greengrass is praised for." — Rich Hauck on "The New Bond"
