Restaurant Round-Up: Bube’s Brewery, Hershey Grill and Texas Roadhouse

In this edition of our Tuesday feature, we review a favorite brunch spot, a biergarten and a popular chain. For the most part, everyone was satisfied with their meals this past week, it seems. If you have been to any of these spots, be sure to add your review and commentary in the comments section. We love to hear from you!

Biergarten Restaurant (at Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy)
Name: Jim
When: Friday at 6:45 PM; had reservations and sat immediately
Been Before: No
Ordered: Bube’s grilled spicy Italian sausage sandwich on a toasted cheesesteak roll with a side of fries (one of 10 sides available)
The Food: Very good. The meals were large enough, tasted great and arrived warm.
The Ambiance: The Biergarten (one of 4 restaurants at Bube’s) is a torch- and candle-lit patio behind the brewery.
Did Others Like Their Meals: Yes, all six friends did.
Cost: Without alcohol, the meals were $8-12 each.
The Service: Excellent. The waitress was seriously one of the nicest and most down-to-earth servers we have ever had.
Notes: We also received a tour of the four different restaurants and a history of the brewery itself. I would recommend this before or after dinner.
Recommendation: Definitely

Hershey Grill
Name: Winton
When: Sunday brunch
Been Before: No
Ordered: I had a Horseradish Cheddar Cheese Omelet that came with a side of breakfast potatoes and grits, plus I ordered a side of sausage and coffee. Ann, my girlfriend, had Florentine Eggs Benedict with a side of breakfast potatoes and a glass of cranberry juice. We are crème brulée fanatics so we couldn’t pass up sharing the Oreo crème brulée (Yeah, I know...with brunch).
The Food: Delicious! 8 out of 10
The Ambiance: The interior is somewhat modern yet classy. Half of the seats are beside large glass windows facing the Hershey Medical Center’s front lawn, which is very nice. The lighting is dimmed at all times which I enjoy.
Did Others Like Their Meals: Yes
Cost: About $15 per person (not including dessert)
The Service: The fact that I didn’t really think about the service means it was just right. Didn’t need to ask for a single thing and we weren’t constantly interrupted with, “How is everything?”.
Notes: Hershey Grill has a reputation for serving a great brunch. They didn’t let us down.
Recommendation: Yes

Texas Roadhouse (Union Deposit Road)
Name: Dori
When: an early Monday night dinner
Been Before:  Yes
Ordered: I had an 8 oz. filet mignon, cooked medium well, with mashed potatoes and a house salad. Also split the super-dense, decadent brownie dessert, served with a scoop of natural vanilla ice cream on top. Two others had the sirloin and rib combo, one had filet tips and the other a ribeye.
The Food: 7.5 out of 10. It’s tasty and good, but not where you go for a prime cut of meat and perfectly seasoned sides. A good value for the money, though, especially when your meal is comped because it came out undercooked not once, but twice. The manager was right on it and very congenial about making it right.
The Ambiance: Kitschy roadhouse theme—rustic wood, industrial floors littered with peanut shells, Western-related décor and a portable saddle where cowboys and cowgirls sit to be “yee-hawed” on their birthdays (so loudly that the entire restaurant can hear). Raucous and rowdy, perfect for bringing kids who can’t be quiet enough for a more upscale restaurant.
Who With: Mom, Dad, “Aunt,” Husband and 3-year-old Son
Did Others Like Their Meals: Yes, everyone seemed pleased with their food.
Cost: $129 including four entrees, five $2 draft beers, a glass of wine, three coffees, one dessert, a healthy tip and tax.
The Service: Fine. Drinks were refilled in a reasonable timeframe. The issue with the undercooked filet was resolved more professionally than I would have expected.
Would You Recommend It: Yes, for families; probably not great for older folks who prefer something subdued

I personally think Bube's is one of the coolest places to eat around here, thanks for covering the biergarten. The Catacombs at Bube's definitely tops my list of most unique dining experiences. A few pics and personal notes from my own experience here on my blog: http://midstatemantra.wordpress.com/2008/09/12/bubesbrewery/

(1 part shameless promotion, 2 parts I'm a huge fan of Bube's and hope you check the place out, you won't be disappointed. )

Do you have something to add?
