Breakfast at the Bar
After our regular Tuesday morning diner — the Paxtang Diner — closed, two friends and I went in search of a new diner in the Paxtang/Swatara area. The second diner we tried was also closed (for “restaffing”) and the third was pricier than we were had hoped for (“You call that a special?”). Then last week we gave Sudsy’s on Paxton Street a try.
Not only were the prices good at Sudsy’s ($3.25 for 2 eggs, toast, homefries and coffee), but the food was excellent. The homefries had some tasty spices mixed in (and weren’t overdone or too vinegary), the bread used for toast was of a high quality (not $.99 grocery store bread), and I was able to get tea instead of coffee (“coffee is the devil,” as Bobby “Waterboy” Boucher’s mother would say). My over-easy eggs could have been done a little softer, but that was very minor.
Located at the former “Remy’s Restaurant,” Sudsy’s was surprisingly nice inside. Half of the restaurant has a typical diner feeling, while the other half is all bar. For us diner-lovers, we have the added advantage of watching the morning news on one of two TVs. Sudsy’s is open at 6:00am for breakfast, and since they are a bar, I would expect you could spend the next 20 hours or so there if you really wanted to.
Week two at Sudsy’s was just as good as the first, and I am hoping to not have to go diner hunting again for a very long time. I might even drop by for burger one of these nights.

1 comment so far. Okay.
After posting this, my over-easy eggs have been perfect, so I no longer have any critiques :)
