Blake Lively and the Peloponnesian League
Entertainers have always tried to push the envelope, and that has always made people angry. There are people in this country whose delicate sensibilities are so mutilated by the sexual content on House that they file complaints to the SEC in between episodes of "Don't Forget The Lyrics." Last fall, Gossip Girl's incendiary ad campaign featuring some of its stars apparently caught in flagrante delicto caused a humongous stir and, at the time, I realized that we've literally been arguing about this exact issue for more than 2,000 years. Seriously, Aristophanes wrote the Lysistrata in 411 BC and, millennia later, it's still certifiably hilarious and certifiably raunchy.
The Gamut Theatre Group starts its month-long run of the comedy on Saturday night, and for those of you who aren't familiar with the story, it's a funny one. When the women of Greece decide that they have had quite enough of the interminable Peloponnesian Wars, they decide to withhold what they think their men want most until they agree to stop fighting. Not surprisingly, the guys end up caving. Guys, if your female acquaintance is highly impressionable, you might want to avoid this one. Here are some other suggestions:
First of all, you have all of the monthly First Friday celebrations. Apparently we’re going high-brow this weekend, because in addition to Greek Comedy, you can enjoy some opera. Center Stage Opera will be performing Don Giovanni in various locations each of the next three weekends. If you felt a little bit lost while watching the Oscars, you can get caught up at Messiah College this weekend. They have Frost/Nixon in the Parmer Cinema Friday and Saturday. Also, even though St. Patty’s is still a little way down the road, Appalachian Brewing Company has Celtic rockers Wyndfall as part of their Irishfest celebration and the Hershey Theatre has the Irish Rovers.
Sunday is a Soccer Saturday at Molly Brannigans. You can go and see games from the English Premiership, the SPL, Ligue 1, La Liga or Serie A. I’m not sure how often they have these, but I’ll be going to one soon. Saturday and Sunday both feature activities on both the Susquehanna Heartland Wine Trail and the UnCork York Tour de Tanks. Legendary pianist Paul Badura-Skoda will be playing at the Forum on Saturday night, but if you’re looking for something a little bit lighter, East Pennsboro High School’s drama students will be performing Footloose! The Musical. Kids work tremendously hard to put on spring musicals; why not help make sure they have a packed house?
Sunday is the final day of the PA Home Show and since the weather is supposed to be beautiful, it might be a nice day to explore the grounds of the Ephrata Cloister during its Charter Day Celebration. It’s Charter Day at the State Museum in Harrisburg as well.
Have fun, kids.

1 comment so far. Okay.
Are the games on Molly Brannigans in HD or just regular TV format?
