Black Friday Primer 2009
Wednesday, November 25, 2009 4:30PM
I don't condemn things that I don't understand. There's always a chance that the failure is on my part, and I'm open to considering new points of view. Except when it comes to Black Friday. You will never convince me that it makes any sense to get up at dawn and trudge through stores in a pulsating, stupefying crowd of caffeine-soaked bargain hunters. Why couldn't these sales simply start at 10? Why don't the stores just open at normal times and stay open until midnight? I work the vast majority of the year. My job forces me to get out of bed long before I'd prefer. I would never consider dragging myself up at 2:00am to go shopping, deals be damned. But many of you do. Good for you. Here's a rundown of what's going on at Central Pennsylvania's shopping malls, outlet centers and big box stores: Full Article » -
The Perks of Getting Older (Whatever Your Age)
Tuesday, April 7, 2009 6:32AM
Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to me! Well, not yet actually, but I've been known to call April my birthday month and extend celebrations as long as possible. I can't remember when this started, but once I hit my 30s, I decided to approach aging as a happy thing and an excuse to hang out with my friends and family and go wild. Of course, now with two tots in tow, I'm just excited to get out for a nice dinner with the hubby. So I felt like I hit the jackpot this week, as free birthday offers came pouring into my inbox and -- for the companies who just don't get it -- into my mail slot. Want to make sure you get your freebies on your birthday? Full Article » -
Local and Last Minute

So after one last trip out to the Shoppes at Susquehanna last night, I thought my Christmas shopping was all finished. Until this morning. Apparently not. Anyway, if you're like me and still have a few pesky people to buy for, I got two email updates in the last few days that might help. I love art and I love coffee, so if any of you are still wondering what to get your friendly Spotobe editor, take note.
First of all, the ArtHouse Lounge on 2nd Street in Harrisburg is offering some huge discounts on original work from their contributing artists. Everything from leather, to glass, to paintings, to ceramics, to photography to custom framing is discounted between 10 and 20 percent. Art is intensely personal and you would have to really know someone to give it as a gift, but buying from the ArtHouse Lounge is not like giving someone a kitschy print; these are beautiful, original, one-of-a-kind pieces. Definitely worth a stop in this weekend. Full Article »
