Restaurant Round-Up: Empire Asian Bistro
Friday, January 22, 2010 11:00AM
We've got a quick and dirty little Restaurant Round-Up for you today, which is incidentally two words that can be used to describe many of the Chinese restaurants in Central Pennsylvania. Nen Q. Zhang, owner of the Jumbo Buffet in Swatara Township, recently opened Empire Asian Bistro in the building left behind by the eminently awful Ruby Tuesday's on Union Deposit Road. The goal is to create a more upscale, pan-Asian dining experience. Spotobeing Katie checked it out last Friday and here's what she had to say. Full Article » -
Restaurant Round-Up: Mitaka, Thai Palace & Italian Delight
Tuesday, February 17, 2009 3:45PMIt's been a while since we had a Restaurant Round-Up, but never fear, this is the triumphant return. This week in the Round-Up, Dori and her family check out Mitaka, I indulge a Food Network-induced craving for Thai and Katie gets a really great cheesesteak. On a related note, next time you're in Philly, skip Pat's, skip Geno's and especially skip Tony Luke's and get your cheesesteak from John's Roast Pork off of Columbus. So South Philly, but so good. If you're a Pat's or Geno's fan, feel free to disagree below. Full Article »

Restaurant Round-Up: Da’ Pits, Progress Grill & Sakura Do
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 11:47AMThere are certain restaurants in the area that I've been meaning to try ever since I moved back to Central Pennsylvania, and on the occasion that I do get to try one and it doesn't quite live up to billing, it's disappointing. People have been telling me for months that Da' Pits Chicago Grill was great for lunch. I went last week and it was... meh (hey, it's in the dictionary). It gets great reviews online, and a number of different people recommended it. Who knows, maybe they had an off day. In addition to a complete description of lunch at Da' Pits, this week in the Round-Up, Fran writes about really, really, really enjoying a piece of cheesecake at Progress Grill and Katie visits Japanese/Italian Restaurant Sakura Do for the first time. I'm sorry, I'll never get used to the thought of one restaurant serving sushi and fettuccine. Leave us some love. Full Article »

Restaurant Round-Up: Café Magnolia, Tropical Smoothie Café & Houlihan’s
Tuesday, December 16, 2008 5:14PM
One of the many ways to test a restaurant is see how well it handles large parties. If it's not accommodating, it's frankly kind of annoying. Obviously, if you were willing to bring a huge group of people to a place, you must like it, right? Really, splitting a check or being a bit flexible with the seating is a huge deal? Here at Spotobe headquarters we once wanted to celebrate a birthday with lunch and a few beers outside in the sun (this was last summer). It would have meant a fairly decent walk, so we called ahead to make sure we would have tables, only to be told that the restaurant couldn't hold tables even for 15 minutes and even if it meant a group of about 15 for lunch. Not good. Anyway, this week on the Round-Up, Samantha talks about the phenomenal job that Café Magnolia did in handling a large party, Jason talks about his love for Tropical Smoothie Café and Katie samples some special kind of iced tea from Long Island at Houlihan's. Leave some comments. Full Article » -
Restaurant Round-Up: Hummelstown House, T. Brendan O’Reilly’s & Texas Roadhouse
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 1:30PMI love introducing people to new things. I get a huge kick out of a friend digging a band he first heard through me or frequenting a restaurant or bar that I turned him or her on to. Well, Spotobe contributor Fran gets that pleasure this week. He went to the Hummelstown House for brunch on Sunday and was so impressed by it, that his description literally made me toss my Subway turkey sub in the trash in disgust. Read his description and tell me you don't feel the same way. Also this week on the Round-Up, Katie gets corned beef and cabbage (really?) at T. Brendan O'Reilly's and Lily enjoys a stuffed sweet potato and some line dancing at Texas Roadhouse. Comments? Full Article »

Restaurant Round-Up: Chocolate Cafe, Raspberries & Carrabba’s
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 4:06PMI can only go out to eat so much. Same with Dori. In my case, my waistline and my wallet would both be adversely affected if I went out any more than I do now. In Dori’s case, well, she’s got a young 'un.
With that in mind, we’d like to introduce a new weekly feature, the Spotoblog Restaurant Round-Up. The people who keep Spotobe running on all cylinders love to go out as much as Dori and I do, and we figured the more meaningful information we can put out there, the better. Hopefully this will be one more resource to check out before spending your hard-earned coin on a meal.
We’ll be putting each post under the new Restaurant Round-Up category, and we’ll also create a category for each Spotobeing who submits a review. That way, if you find you tend to like the same restaurants as one of us, you can see every place that person has written about. This week, Madeline weighs in on the Chocolate Café, Dave dishes about Raspberries and Katie gives us the scoop on Carrabba’s. Enjoy: Full Article »
