  • Restaurant Round-Up: Café Magnolia, Tropical Smoothie Café & Houlihan’s

One of the many ways to test a restaurant is see how well it handles large parties. If it's not accommodating, it's frankly kind of annoying. Obviously, if you were willing to bring a huge group of people to a place, you must like it, right? Really, splitting a check or being a bit flexible with the seating is a huge deal? Here at Spotobe headquarters we once wanted to celebrate a birthday with lunch and a few beers outside in the sun (this was last summer). It would have meant a fairly decent walk, so we called ahead to make sure we would have tables, only to be told that the restaurant couldn't hold tables even for 15 minutes and even if it meant a group of about 15 for lunch. Not good. Anyway, this week on the Round-Up, Samantha talks about the phenomenal job that Café Magnolia did in handling a large party, Jason talks about his love for Tropical Smoothie Café and Katie samples some special kind of iced tea from Long Island at Houlihan's. Leave some comments.   Full Article »

  • Restaurant Round-Up: Market Cross Pub, Shab’s Pita Stroller & Juliana’s

Sometimes we try to put together little themes for Restaurant Round-Up. Not this week. This week we've got English pub food, Lebanese and Italian all jammed into one post. Better that than all jammed into one stomach, because that's an unholy combination that sounds like it would overthrow even the most iron-clad of stomachs. This week in the Round-Up, I keep it simple at Market Cross Pub in Carlisle, Jason writes about eating weird veggie stuff at Shab's and Lily tries out Juliana's. Comments are always appreciated.   Full Article »

  • Restaurant Round-Up: Ceoltas, Molly’s & Thai Palace

Central Pennsylvania has more than a few Irish Pubs; Harrisburg in particular. It would be easy to be condescending and say that they all came from the same cookie cutter, but I think that each of them has its own charm. Personally, I always tended to view Harrisburg's Irish pubs more as watering holes than actual restaurants. But after a while you get tired of the same old lunch options, and in the last few months, we've hit a couple of them. With that in mind, while I'd be more than happy to raise a bottle of Newcastle (sorry, I'm an English boy through and through) or five at McGrath's or Molly's, I'm a bit partial to the food at Ceoltas. So is Jason, who writes about it in this week's Restaurant Round-Up. Also in the Round-Up, Fran recaps lunch at Molly's in a vernacular about as Irish as the veggie wrap that he ordered. Also, Dave weighs in on Thai Palace in Camp Hill. He doesn't write in Thai though. ขอบพระคุณครับ Dave. As always, your input is greatly appreciated.   Full Article »

  • Restaurant Round-Up: Golden Gate 2, Bangkok 56 & Chili’s

I love Asian food, and the lack of a viable Asian lunch option in downtown Harrisburg is a source of constant annoyance. The Chinese place in Strawberry Square gets the job done, but I'm through with giving New 2nd Wok chances. This week in the Restaurant Round-Up, we cover two different types of Asian cuisine. Jason reports back after a trip to the new West Shore location of Vietnamese/Korean restaurant The Golden Gate and Evan gives us another opinion on one of my favorites, Korean joint Bangkok 56. Also, Jim writes about a trip to Chili's which isn't even vaguely Asian, but does serve southwestern Egg Rolls. As always, feedback, comments, you know the drill.   Full Article »
